On July 22, a young couple from London became parents for the first time, welcoming a son into the world. Like the other thousands of babies born that day, this new baby boy cried, ate, slept and opened his eyes for the first time. But unlike the other thousands of babies born that day, this new baby boy was a Prince.
The media surrounded St. Mary’s Hospital in London and the world watched and waited as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to her first child with Prince William, Duke of Cambridge: George Alexander Louis.
HRH Prince George of Cambridge is third in line of succession to the thrones of the 16 Commonwealth realms, but his royal duties will not be high priority for a few years. First things first: eating solid foods, potty training and learning to read, among other things. Because even though he was born into a royal family, Prince George has the same goals as any other newborn and his parents will be there every step of the way.
Whether made by a chef at Kensington Palace or his mother, when Prince George is old enough to sit at the dinner table and enjoy a meal, it’s guaranteed it will be a healthy and balanced one. Protein and fresh vegetables will definitely be on his menu. What will not? Foods with high amounts of sugar and anything processed. This is a good rule to follow for any child: The fresher the food, the more nutritional value it has. And while children could be picky eaters and it might be hard to get them to eat their vegetables, prepared the right way and seasoned nicely, they might think mom is a Michelin chef.
In terms of education, Will and Kate will likely enroll their son in a pricey, private school, which will provide top education and extracurricular activities (as well as privacy). But not all parents can afford this luxury. Good education does not always have to come with a large price tag. Public schools also provide excellent education and come at a more affordable price. It is also important to remember education is not limited to a classroom. When at home with your children, reading, putting together puzzles and doing other learning activities help provide a great educational foundation that is priceless.
Whether it is to pass on religious values or to stress the importance of love and commitment, family time is key in any child’s life.There’s no denying the new Prince has a very large family, all ready and waiting to dote on his every move. It doesn’t matter if it’s his Great Grandmother Queen Elizabeth II or his Aunt Pippa Middleton – royalty or not, familytime matters. Just recently in Rio de Janeiro, Pope Francis said “How precious is the family as the privileged place for transmitting the faith. How important grandparents are for family life, for passing on the human and religious heritage which is so essential for each and every society. How important it is to have inter-generational exchanges and dialogue, especially within the context of family.
It’s easy to think some children are luckier than others. But by following the same principles of Will and Kate, anyone can raise their own royal baby.Years from now, Prince George will need to speak in front of groups, small and large. The tool he’ll use that will be instilled in him from his parents? Confidence.
Love and support from parents is very important for children to make them confident in their lives, not just in public speaking, but in decisions they make and their actions.
