The Novak Djokovic Foundation continues the Support, NOT Perfection program by bringing Dr. Gabor Maté to our region.

For the second year in a row, the Novak Djokovic Foundation brings globally recognized experts to our region to speak on the topic of early child development, thus raising awareness of very important topics that concern both parents and society as a whole. As part of the internationally recognized program “Support, NOT Perfection”, which has been successfully implemented by the Novak Djokovic Foundation for 6 years, a well-known speaker and bestselling author, Dr. Gabor Maté, is coming to Serbia. Highly sought after for his expertise on multiple topics including trauma, addiction, stress and the impact of prevention on proper personality development, Dr. Maté will hold a guest lecture/conversation on October 7th at the MTS Hall and an educational workshop one day later, on October 8th, at the hotel Crowne Plaza, where visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about topics that can contribute to better quality of children’s early development. In addition to Belgrade, Dr. Mate will also visit the countries of the region – in Bosnia and Herzegovina he will hold two conversations: on October 10 at the Bosnian Cultural Center in Sarajevo and on October 12 at the “Obilićevo” Sports Hall in Banja Luka, while on October 14 he will hold a full-day workshop in Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana.

Dr. Maté brings together scientific research, case histories, personal insights and experience to present a broad perspective that enlightens and empowers people to work towards healing themselves and their loved ones. At the conversation and the workshop, insights and results from his practice will be explained through a conversation with Jelena Djokovic, co-founder and global CEO of the foundation.

“I am extremely proud of the fact that, after Dr. Shefali last year, the Novak Djokovic Foundation is bringing to the region another world-renowned expert whose teaching is based on early childhood development. Dr. Gabor Maté is someone we can learn a lot from and we are really looking forward to visiting several countries in the region with him and enabling all interested people to get to know his work. The Novak Djokovic Foundation will continue to be the initiator of important social conversations in the region and we will do everything to justify the trust of many wonderful people who support our work,” said Jelena Djokovic, co-founder and global CEO of the Novak Djokovic Foundation.

After 20 years of family practice and palliative care experience, Dr. Maté has worked for over a decade in Vancouver with addiction and mental illness patients. His book on addiction won the Hubert Evans Award for literary nonfiction. For his revolutionary medical work and writing, he was awarded the Order of Canada, the country’s highest civilian award, as well as the Vancouver Civic Service Award.

His books include In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters With Addiction; When the Body Says No; The Cost of Hidden Stress; Scattered Minds: The Origins and Healing of Attention Deficit Disorder; and (with Dr. Gordon Neufeld) Hold on to Your Kids: Why Parents Need to Matter More Than Peers. His last book “The Myth of Normal” was published in September last year. Gabor is also the founder of Compassionate Inquiry, a therapeutic approach now studied by hundreds of therapists, doctors, counselors and other professionals around the world.
