Anyone can enjoy gardening, but children, in particular, will gain special benefits and have tons of fun in the process. Caring for plants is highly didactic and helps children develop new skills.

Since 2018, Novak Djokovic Foundation has been implementing the “ABC of Better Me” program in close collaboration with professional nutritionists, public health institutes, and organic gardening associations.

THIS PROGRAM IS IMPLEMENTED THROUGH

Smart Gardens

A key part of the “ABC of Better Me” program is the maintenance of gardens in preschools throughout Serbia, together with teachers and children. Gardens have the role of “laboratories“, where children can learn about nature, natural processes and the needs of fruits and vegetables. Gardens are established according to the principles of organic production.

Teacher Training

With the help of nutritionists and other experts, our team organizes special training for teachers and preschool staff. We train them how to work with children in gardens and to transfer their knowledge to other colleagues. In this way, we ensure the sustainability of our program and build a community that nurtures healthy eating habits.

A Visit To Local Farm

The best way to teach children is to show them examples that are adapted to their interests. That’s why we provide them with a learning experience that sparks their imagination and initiative. Such is the visit to a local organic producers farm where they can learn more about how nature and nutrition are connected.

  • “Since my child started gardening at her preschool, not a day passes by without her asking us - Is this healthy?”

    - father Stefan Peric

  • “While you are making food together, talk to your children about ingredients, which ones they are, and why they are good for their health.”

    - Vesna Zecevic, nutritionist and program collaborator

Parents supported

Childhood obesity is one of the most serious public health challenges of the 21st century.

In Serbia, it is particularly present in urban areas. Help us expand our “ABC of Better Me” program and provide support to more children. The only way for humans to thrive in the long run is to coexist with nature, not master it.

OUR PARTNERS

We wouldn’t have enriched the lives of so many children if it weren’t for the generous support of others.
