Parenting doesn’t come with a manual, but we don’t have to look for answers alone. Following the first meeting of the “Parenting That GROWS” conference, the Novak Djokovic Foundation invites parents to join the conversation this Saturday, October 10, on one of the most challenging topics of all: raising teenagers.

The first meeting of the “Parenting That GROWS” conference took place at the MTS Hall in Belgrade. The conference is organized by the Novak Djokovic Foundation as part of its “Support, NOT Perfection” program, with the support of main partners Generali Serbia and The Human Safety Net Serbia.

Parents and experts came together to talk about questions families face every day: how to understand a child, how to build a relationship based on safety and trust, and where to find support at different stages of parenting. The first meeting focused on the period from pregnancy to age six, when the foundations are laid for the child, the parent, and the world they share. Prof. Aleksandar Baucal, Dr. Nirvana Pištoljević, and Miša Stojiljković, author of the series “Tata, ti si lud” (“Dad, You’re Crazy”), spoke about early development and children’s emotional needs.

Conference speakers with Co-Founder and General Director Jelena Đoković and Program Manager Smiljana Grujić during the first meeting.

Speaking about the idea behind the conference, Jelena Djoković, co-founder and director of the Novak Djokovic Foundation said: “Parenting doesn’t come with a manual. Every child brings new questions, dilemmas, and challenges, and we don’t always have to find the answers on our own. That’s why, through ‘Parenting That GROWS’, we want to offer parents a space where they can hear from experts, share experiences, and find support for the challenges that come with every new stage of growing up.”

Second Meeting: Boundaries, Expectations, and Relationships with Teenagers

The conference is designed as four meetings that follow four key stages of development, from the prenatal period to adolescence. The second meeting takes place this Saturday, October 10, at 10:00 AM at the MTS Hall and is dedicated to the theme “Boundaries, expectations, and relationships with teenagers who are growing up and becoming their own people.”

How do you set a boundary and still preserve the relationship? How do you understand the changes adolescence brings? What happens when a parent’s expectations and a child’s needs no longer align? These questions will be addressed by:

  • Vladimir Borovnica, specialist in medical psychology and family psychotherapist
  • Vesna Brzev-Ćurčić, specialist in medical psychology and training psychoanalyst
  • Dr. Roberto Grujičić, specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry

The Foundation invites parents, expecting parents, and everyone who wants to better understand children and their developmental needs to join us.
