On the occasion of World Book and Copyright Day, the Novak Djokovic Foundation and famous Serbian actress Bojana Ordinačev brought 1.500 books for children in the SOS Children’s village in Kraljevo today. This book donation came as a result of the campaign “Books with love” held yesterday at the shopping center Usce in Belgrade.
Many “small book donors” aged 5-10, along with their parents, grandparents and other people of good will visited our nicely decorated corner in the shopping center in Belgrade, and donated their carefully selected books to a group of less fortunate children in Kraljevo. Now the children will be able to enjoy stories, novels and poems, to improve knowledge and their imagination.
In addition, the students from the primary school “Jovan Dučić” in Novi Beograd were our special guests at the event in Usce. Viktor Savić and Aleksandar Radojičić, two famous actors from the children’s theatre “Bosko Buha” also joined us, creating even more positive and charming atmosphere during the campaign. They read stories to children and discussed with them about the importance of learning and reading, and about the role of books in developing children’s imagination.
The final part of this wonderful campaign was held in Kraljevo, where NDF’s representatives brought the books.
For the past three years the Novak Djokovic Foundation honors World Book and Copyright Day by organizing various events and campaigns with the aim to promote reading habits among children. We also want to help them develop a love for reading from the early years. Reading has always been very important component of early childhood development. It was so great to see that there were so many kids who decided to do something good for other boys and girls and to donate the books they no longer use. The Foundation provided additional books to match the number of donated titles. Therefore, we are more than happy to bring these 1.500 books in the SOS Children’s Village. We want to express our gratitude to our partners from the shopping center Usce, as well as to Viktor, Aleksandar and Bojana, for their great help and for the support to collect the books and deliver them here. This campaign wouldn’t be so special and memorable without them, said Gorana Džudža Jakovljević, NDF project manager.
For Bojana Ordinačev it was a great pleasure to be part of NDF campaign and to spend such a lovely time with children in Kraljevo. According to her, there was no better way to explain the importance of books and of reading in the education of children.
I hope that children in SOS Children’s village in Kraljevo will enjoy reading contemporary and interesting titles and books we brought them today, said Ordinačev.
As a father of a three year old girl, Aleksandar Radojičić reflected wonderful moments he spent together with his daughter while reading picture books, helping her to make her first steps into the amazing world of printed words.
She is already so fond of books that I will not have to remind her why reading matters as she gets older. In fact, she initiates most of our reading activities, such as reading bedtime stories. This campaign is very important and it’s nice to see such a positive energy among the children while giving their favourite books to other less fortunate kids. Their empathy and desire to share and help others in need are incredible things. I hope that I will recognize the same qualities in my child one day, said Radojičić.
Viktor Savić said that he gladly accepted the invitation to participate in this campaign and to encourage children to discover the magical world of books and become avid readers.
It’s great there are so many children who want to donate their books to peers in lack of reading materials. Books are important for everybody, especially for children. They help children’s imagination grow, which is a crucial component in our lives, explained Savić.
The Novak Djokovic Foundation is focused on Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Early Childhood Development (ECD). Both prepare children to progress through life and face new challenges. With the right support, every child can become a winner in any field and reach his/her full potential.
