Prizeo lottery raises $123,000 for Novak Djokovic Foundation as winner is announced
The latest lottery ran by the Novak Djokovic Foundation has raised $123,000 which will go to providing greater access to early childhood education and development in Serbia.
More than 3,200 entrants had bid for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play tennis with Novak Djokovic, one of the greatest players of all time, with Dave Wills, from White Lake, MI, crowned the lucky winner.
As part of the prize, Dave has gotten the chance to:
- meet and play tennis with Novak,
- two tickets for the duration of the 2018 Laver Cup that took place in Chicago last week,
- signed merchandise and
- roundtrip airfare and hotel accommodation for him and a guest.
The month-long competition that ran through a partnership with Prizeo, saw tennis fans from around the world donate to the Foundation, in a bid to win the unforgettable experience. All of the proceeds raised will be used to support the Foundation’s on-the-ground activities in Serbia (see our programs here).
Launched in 2007, the Novak Djokovic Foundation champions and invests in early childhood education and development primarily in Serbia, a country where only one in two children has access to pre-school education.
More than a decade on, the Foundation works tirelessly towards a goal of achieving 90 percent pre-school access in Serbia by 2030, the same timeframe as the UN Sustainable Development Goals. To date, the organization has provided 20,000 people with access to its programs, retrained 1,600 teachers, supported 1,000 families and rebuilt or repurposed 40 schools in a bid to achieve this goal.
Dave Wills, the Prizeo lottery winner said:
The trip to Chicago and attending the Laver Cup was incredible itself, but to also get to meet Novak and even practice with him was something I’ll never forget. Novak is the definition of a champion on and off the court!
Marija Ristic, the Head of Communications at the Novak Djokovic Foundation, said:
The competition has been a huge success and we are delighted to have offered Dave a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience, enjoying three-days of world-class tennis and taking to the court to play with Novak, one of the sport’s greats.
We want to thank all of those who bid for this opportunity and look forward to investing the money raised directly into our early childhood development initiatives to achieve our long-term goal of 90 per cent pre-school access in Serbia by 2030.
We’ve made great strides forward over the past decade and, with donor support such as this, believe we can do even more over the coming 12 years.
