Third Friendship Games Officially Closed
Zlatibor, September 28 – The third Friendship Games, an event Novak Djokovic Foundation traditionally hosts every year, officially ended on September 27.
More than 85 children from the friendship camp got many nice presents and received thank you letters and awards for their exceptional talents and creativity. Lovely closing ceremony took place in the children’s resort “Suncev breg” on Zlatibor mountain. In the past five days (September 22-27) primary school pupils from Valjevo, Lucani, Vladimirci and Mackat made many new friends and experienced wonderful things.
Similar to previous years, the friendship camp on Zlatibor gathered primary school pupils, aged 7 to 10, from one-room schools with mixed-age classes in economically disadvantaged municipalities in Serbia where Novak Djokovic Foundation has been implementing “Schools of Life – Together for Childhood” project. Under the motto “Friendship without Borders” and through creative workshops, short seminars and sports activities, the kids were able to socialize, learn and master new skills.
The visit of Novak Djokovic, the world’s best tennis player and the founder of NDF, and Jelena Djokovic, director of the Novak Djokovic Foundation, made a strong impression on children at this year’s Friendship Games. They have joined our little friends and spent two exciting days at the camp where they participated in a workshop and prepared healthy and delicious meals, played the lucky dance, and enjoyed the benefits of exercising early in the morning.
Maja Jovanovic, NDF’s project manager said she was proud and pleased that NDF team hosted this traditional event in the best possible way. Everybody was more than happy for enabling the children to spend five memorable days, socialize and have fun as well as learn about the importance of friendship, fair play, understanding and acceptance of diversity.
Saying goodbye to our great little friends as Friendship games are over has never been easy for us. Yet, we are proud of what we have achieved in the past five days. We have participated in various creative workshops, spent wonderful time outdoors and made many new friends. We have learned that it’s not all about winning. What truly counts are fair play and team spirit as well as to show respect to our rivals. We have explored and enjoyed beautiful and unique nature of this mountain – while at the same time we have mastered new skills and made friends for a lifetime – said Jovanovic.
On this ocassion she expressed her gratitude to Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, and many other friends and partners for enabling the third Friendship Games to happen.
The first Friendship Games under the motto “Friendship without Borders” took place in 2013 with the aim to promote values such as friendship, fair play, understanding, acceptance of diversity, healthy nutrition, team spirit and environmental awareness. Big thanks to Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, Čajetina municipality, Aleksandar MN, Lavirint, Nutribulleta, Eucerin and many others for helping and supporting us in hosting this year’s event.
