Opening of the Newly Reconstructed Kindergarten “VESELI CVETOVI” in Smederevo
Representatives of the Novak Djokovic Foundation and local self-government today officially opened the newly refurbished kindergarten “Veseli cvetovi”, within the preschool institution “Nasa radost” in Smederevo.
The Novak Djokovic Foundation donated EUR 88,000 for the reconstruction of this facility, currently attended by 354 boys and girls 3 to 5 years old. During the renovation process old external doors and windows have been replaced, the roof has been repaired and newly plastered walls and ceilings have been painted in bright and lovely colors. The Municipality of Smederevo allocated additional funds in the amount of EUR 2,500 for the implementation of this significant project.
Gorana Dzudza Jakovljevic, Head of the Project and Program Implementation Department at the Novak Djokovic Foundation, explained that the preschool management faced many challenges on their way to promote positive and effective educational environment for young children and kindergarten teachers.
The building suffered from dampness problems caused by a leaking roof, while doors and windows haven’t been replaced for a very long time. Sanitary inspectors addressed these issues in their reports and emphasized the importance of urgent reconstruction for further functioning of this preschool. Therefore, in cooperation with local self-government, we have carried out renovation works in order to fulfill all necessary standards. Our goal was to increase energy efficiency of the facility, improve working conditions for preschool staff and provide the youngest plenty of opportunities to learn, enjoy and play with their friends in fully refurbished and nicely decorated classrooms, said Dzudza Jakovljevic.
Jasna Avramovic, Mayor of the town of Smederevo, stressed that the Novak Djokovic Foundation immediately recognized willingness of the preschool institution and the town of Smederevo to change things in this facility for the better. The Foundation’s contribution to this initiative was truly remarkable.
Reconstruction works ended as it was initially planned. Thus, we are glad for being able to keep our promise made first of all to children and open the doors of this newly renovated kindergarten as soon as possible. It’s not the first time the Foundation cooperates with our town. NDF help and support is much appreciated and we look forward to working together on other similar projects for the well-being of all our children, said Avramovic.
Mirjana Cosic, director of the preschool institution “Nasa radost” expressed her gratitude to the Novak Djokovic Foundation for supporting and cooperating with them once again to create better conditions for education and development of local children. In 2012 the Foundation also provided funds for the reconstruction of preschool in the village of Lipe near Smederevo.
Thanks to our friends and partners from the Novak Djokovic Foundation we have succeeded to transform kindergarten “Veseli cvetovi” into a warm and charming place for these wonderful boys and girls, their teachers and families, said Cosic.
The project in Smederevo has been selected under the 2015/2016 NFD Call for New Projects. The Call offers project funding donations to be invested in the reconstruction and equipping of preschool and school facilities with furniture,
play sets, books, toys, teaching and learning materials. The aim is to provide best possible conditions for children throughout Serbia to grow up, play, progress academically, reach their full potential and have a good start in life.
