Grand opening of the 6th Friendship Games for 129 children from Serbia
The kids from disadvantaged communities, aged seven to ten, will spend six days in Kopaonik within the Friendship Games camp.
Various adventure and sports activities, creative and artistic workshops were prepared by the Novak Djokovic Foundation, in cooperation with the team of experts. A hundred and twenty-nine children, with their 18 teachers, from the primary schools in Zagubica, Petrovac na Mlavi, Priboj, Svilajnac, Smederevska Palanka, Krusevac and Prokuplje will be staying at this year’s sixth in a row camp from September 16th to 21st.
The camp is a short, dynamic excursion with a lot of interesting activities, where over 500 children and 140 teachers from 32 places in Serbia participated in the past years. The idea is that through the program and the motto Friendship without Borders, the children from the Friendship Games bring home a beautiful memory that will remind them, all their lives, of the values of friendship and the importance of respecting others.
Staying in nature and carefully designed activities affect the development of schoolchildren, which inspired the Foundation and our team to create this, now traditional Friendship Camp, in 2013. This is an opportunity for the children from small communities who don’t often have the opportunity to stay at excursions or recreational classes, meet and socialize, but also to make friendships, develop their skills and get the most beautiful memories they’ll remember. Over the last ten years, more than 25,000 children, parents and teachers participated in Novak Djokovic Foundation projects, and now the participants of this year’s Friendship Games are becoming a part of this big family,
said Maja Kremic, Head of Donation Program Department at the Novak Djokovic Foundation.
As part of the program, at the workshops of fine and performing arts, famous Serbian actress Hristina Popovic will meet with children and introduce them to the world of theater and film.
Arts and sports are the two most sacred disciplines through which the foundations of humanity are built and which teach us what it means to be a friend and the fact that we are not separate individuals, but that we are created to live and function in the community. As a mother, I have the goal of inspiring my child with the values learned at the Friendship Games and it is my great honor to be a part of something so noble and important. I think that investing in children, who are the biggest treasure of our country, is of great importance for building a healthy society,
said Hristina Popovic.
As in previous years, the friends from the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation provided us great help and support in the organization of the Friendship Games, while the International Women’s Club, Ski resorts of Serbia, Bakina tajna, Aqua Viva, Dunav osiguranje, Hotel Junior, Chips Way, Jumbo Travel, Diopta, Dance factory, Gerbuder Weiss, Medigroup, Belina doo, JRJ Moj izdavač, as well as Eurocom gave, also, a significant contribution.
