Novak in all-star charity tennis event in Ritz-Carlton
World no.1 Novak Djokovic showed his philanthropic side once again when he took part in the fourth annual Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Miami All-Star Charity Tennis Event on Tuesday evening at the Cliff Drysdale Tennis Center.
Only 24 locals were given the opportunity to test their skills in a Round Robin qualifying tournament in which the winners earned a chance to play against and alongside the top tennis professionals.
Led by former tennis player Cliff Drysdale who was elected to International Tennis Hall of Fame two weeks ago, the all-star lineup featured: six-time Grand Slam champion and reigning world no.1 Novak Djokovic, Olympic Gold Medalist and US Open winner Andy Murray, former no.1 and French Open titlist Ana Ivanovic, the 20-year-old American hope Ryan Harrison. Round Robin players included the Bryan Brothers, Mark Knowles, Daniel Nestor, Rohan Bopanna, Jean-Julian Rojer, Aisam Qureshi and Dave Macpherson.
Proceeds from the fourth annual All-Star Charity Tennis Event will support the Greater Miami Tennis and Education Foundation (GMTEF) that helps economically and socially challenged youth learn tennis and valuable life skills by participating in free, affordable GMTEF tennis and education programs throughout the school year, as well as during the summer.
