Representatives of the Novak Djokovic Foundation, the town of Uzice and the preschool institution “Uzice” officially opened today a new outdoor playground for children in kindergarten “Bambi”. The funds donated by the Foundation in the amount of EUR 19,000 covered full playground reconstruction and equipping.

The kindergarten “Bambi” is among nine facilities of the preschool institution “Uzice” and one of the largest preschools in this town, currently accommodating nearly 380 preschoolers. On this occasion Gorana Dzudza Jakovljevic, NDF project manager, touched on the playgrounds the Foundation supported in the previous period and acknowledged excellent cooperation with local authorities and preschool institution in order to do something special for kids in Uzice.

Playgrounds provide crucial and vital opportunities for children to play and promote a child’s cognitive, emotional, physical, and social development. Being aware of these facts so far the Foundation has reconstructed and equipped four preschool playgrounds throughout the countrywithinthe 2015/2016 NDF Call for New Projects. Including the fifth one we open today, over 1000 boys and girls now have a perfect place to play and spend quality time with their friendsin a nature-surrounded setting. We also plan to equip kindergartens in three more towns with the latest, safe and durable play sets and transform old preschool yards into fun outdoor play areas. Community initiatives are essential for the implementation of these and similar projects. They map the preschools that most need our support and submit applications for project funding during our annual Calls. Working together we can reach larger number of children and create better conditions for their education and development, explained Dzudza Jakovljevic.

On behalf of teachers and children, director of PI “Uzice”, Velesinka Jovanovic, expressed her gratitude to the Foundation for its generous donation.

Many thanks to the Novak Djokovic Foundation for making this wonderful playground possible. Through this donation the Foundation helped local children experience the joy of playing in a safe, pleasant and stimulating environment. I’m sure the new facility will provide hours of entertainment for kids and remind them of people who wanted them to feel happy and supported, said the preschool director.

Deputy Mayor of Uzice, Nemanja Nesic, highlighted the importance of investing in children and their better future.

All children deserve a quality outdoor play space that encourages their socialization, imaginative play and physical activity. Things we learn and experience in early childhood shape our personality and lay the foundation for lifelong success. Therefore, we are grateful to the Novak Djokovic Foundation for creating and designing this playground according to children’s needs and expectations. We hope they will enjoy playing with their peers and learn valuable lessons through play. Nevertheless, when donation comes from a successful and highly inspiring athlete it counts even more. Novak is already a role model for children worldwide, due to his greatness on the court. Yet his charity work and caring for the well-being of the youngest make him a true champion, said Deputy Mayor of Uzice.

The playground project in Uzice has been selected under the 2015/2016 NDF Call for New Projects. The Call offers project funding donations to be invested in the reconstruction and equipping of preschool and school facilities with furniture, play sets, books, toys, teaching and learning materials. The aim is to provide best possible conditions for children in 20 towns throughout Serbia to grow up, play, progress academically, reach their full potential and have a good start in life.
