We Officially Opened Our 5th Friendship Games in Kopaonik

by , Posted on 18th Sep 2017

This year, the Friendship Games celebrate 5th anniversary.

We are so proud that for the fifth year in a row, new friendship adventure with more than 140 children has started today on Kopaonik Mountain in Serbia! These wonderful Friendship Games, traditionally hosted by our Foundation, this year gathered first to fourth graders from primary schools in Sokobanja, Pozega, Cuprija, Vranje, Paracin and Uzice. Accompanied by their teachers, members of NDF team, and our incredible and caring volunteers, the kids will participate in sports, entertaining and educational activities and creative workshops over the next few days (18-23 September). In addition, they will explore unique natural beauties of Kopaonik and visit local sites. We hope they will enjoy the camp, play, learn and experience something new, forge bonds and friendships to last a lifetime and bring home fond memories of the Friendship Games.

The Friendship Games were founded in 2013 and have since welcomed nearly 300 primary school-aged boys and girls and 71 teachers from 26 towns in Serbia. The Friendship Games are an annual retreat for children from disadvantaged communities who will benefit from the experience in ways that will span the course of their lives. The idea is to offer them plenty of opportunities to connect with the natural environment, master valuable life skills, make new friends, have fun, show their creative side, learn together and from each other, and discover new interests and talents. All camp activities and workshops have been carefully selected and designed in collaboration with child development experts. The Games also promote right values, like fair play, understanding, acceptance of diversity, healthy nutrition, importance of teamwork and environmental awareness.

Our dear friends from the Princess Charlene of the Monaco Foundation have joined us again, and we are glad to continue excellent cooperation our two foundations achieved in hosting the Friendship Games in the past.

Special thanks to ATP World Tour (through its program ATP Aces for Charity), the Center for the Promotion of Science, the Junior Hotel, Ski resorts of Serbia, the National Dance Foundation – Aja Jung, Bakina tajna, Aqua Viva, Štark, Dance Factory, Gebruder Weiss, and Medigroup, for their help and support in making the Friendship Games 2017 happen.
