The Novak Djokovic Foundation Invested €42,000 in the Reconstruction of the Preschool Facility in Novi Sad
Thanks to the donation of the Novak Djokovic Foundation in the amount of € 41,525 the newly re-designed kindergarten “Veverica” in Novi Sad today officially opened its doors and welcomed nearly 300 boys and girls 3-6.5 years old, currently attending the facility within the preschool institution “Radosno detinjstvo”.
The funds provided by the Novak Djokovic Foundation covered preschool refurbishing, including replacement of old external doors and windows, as well as installation of a wheelchair ramp for people with disabilities at the main facility entrance.
Gorana Dzudza Jakovljevic, Head of the Program and Project Department at the Novak Djokovic Foundation, said that due to the poor learning and teaching conditions the building required urgent reconstruction.
Caring for the well-being of children, their education, development, and safety is our top priority. The fact that external joinery has not been replaced since the opening of this preschool was the reason enough for us to act and change that as soon as possible. In addition, we wanted to provide people with disabilities with easier access to the facility. Therefore together with local government, we have joined the implementation of the project “Bringing Quality Preschool to Life” in order to make needed repairs, increase energy efficiency of the facility and thus ensure that children feel comfortable in their kindergarten, explained Dzudza Jakovljevic.
Authorities of the City of Novi Sad also recognized the importance of investing in this preschool. They did their best to meet all administrative requirements and obtain permits for the beginning of reconstruction works.
Zdravko Jelusic, President of the City Assembly of Novi Sad said that they were delighted the Foundation partnered with their city to do something special for these wonderful children.
Novi Sad gladly supports initiatives that strive to make a positive, tangible and lasting difference to the lives of young children, whereas the Novak Djokovic Foundation is known for its passionate commitment to reach to those who need our help most, though the implementation of various projects and programs. The reconstruction process transformed the kindergarten “Veverica” into a warm and charming place for the benefit of children, their teachers and families, concluded Jelusic.
