The Novak Djokovic Foundation Donates 280,000 EUR for New Kindergarten in Sabac
The Novak Djokovic Foundation will donate € 280,000 for the opening of a kindergarten in Prnjavor, near Sabac, in Western Serbia. The facility will be the first and only in this area to provide early care and education programs for children 3-6.5 years old.
Representatives of the Novak Djokovic Foundation and the City of Sabac signed today the cooperation agreement regarding repurposing of the local health center within the project “Quality Kindergarten for Happier Childhood”. Once refurbished, the building will be able to accommodate kindergarten classrooms for 150 toddlers and preschoolers from Prnjavor and nearby places.
We are glad that the old healthcare center will be completely reconstructed and transformed into a dream place for these wonderful boys and girls. Shiny new toys, furniture, books and other didactic materials will make for well-appointed classrooms whereas new outdoor playsets will be installed in the preschool yard. Moreover, some of the kindergarten classes will function as Schools of Life. Children will attend best-in-class preschool programs and teachers will have plenty of opportunities to improve their competence and teaching practice through specialized training courses, seminars, and workshops, held on a regular basis,
explained Gorana Dzudza Jakovljevic, Head of the Program and Project Department at the Novak Djokovic Foundation.
Dzudza Jakovljevic also highlighted the fact that among nearly 4,000 residents in Prnjavor there were many families with young children in need of kindergarten services in their neighbourhood.
We have recognized the significance of this project for the local community. Therefore, together with our partners, we will do our best to remodel the existing space and create a safe, stable and enjoyable environment for children to learn, play with their friends, develop their talents and reach their full potential.
Nemanja Pajic, President of the City of Sabac Assembly said that the goal of the project was to enable children in small, rural areas to experience the same joys of childhood as their peers in big cities.
With this new facility, Sabac will further expand the network of kindergartens and provide full-day programs for three additional groups of children – toddlers and two Schools of Life groups. We want to ensure that as many local children as possible have access to high-quality early childhood education and thus give them the chance to thrive forever. We would like to express our gratitude to the Novak Djokovic Foundation for supporting this important project. Once again they demonstrated a strong commitment to the well-being of children and their better future,
Sandra Micic, Director of the preschool institution “Nase dete” in Sabac, the new preschool in Prnjavor will join, emphasized that the NDF donation would provide vital support to families and communities in this part of Serbia. “Opportunities for professional development of teachers and rich and varied environment that promotes children’s early learning and development similar to kindergartens in urban areas are some of the crucial project benefits”, concluded Micic.
