Novak and Jelena Djokovic opened the 7th Friendship Games
More than 130 children form underdeveloped regions, aged seven to ten, will spend six days at the mountain Kopaonik for the “Friendship Games” friendship camp, which was officially opened today by our founders Jelena and Novak Djokovic.
Students from 13 satellite schools located in villages nearby municipalities of Sremska Mitrovica, Smederevo, Kragujevac, Aleksinac, Vlasotince, and Irig, will enjoy various activities organized by the Novak Djokovic Foundation from 16th to 21st of September.
The idea behind the event is that children who do not have the opportunity to go to school trips meet each other, spend time together and develop their skills.
“Children always remind us what happiness is and how little it takes to get a genuine smile from them. Playing and spending time with friends are the best childhood memories, and our team is working daily to make sure every child in Serbia has those memories. The smiling faces of these children are the best proof that what we’re doing, we’re doing right, and they are a motivation for us to keep going,” said our co-founder Novak Djokovic.
Famous Serbian singer Mari Mari and students from her singing group opened the ceremony and marked the beginning of this dynamic friendship camp with numerous athletic and adventurous activities, creative and art workshops. Until now, close to 650 children and 85 teachers from 34 cities in Serbia participated in previous Friendship Games.
“Our camp’s motto is Limitless Friendship, and organizing it for the seventh consecutive time is proof that we succeeded in that mission. We are happy that the Friendship Games became a tradition and that a new generation of children will create great memories at Kopaonik – memories which they will carry with them their whole lives, reminding them of the value of friendship and the importance of respecting others. Our Foundation has been working hard on creating equal opportunities for every child for 12 years already, and playing and spending time together are one of the prerequisites for a happy childhood, which is important for building character in later phases,” said Jelena Djokovic, Foundation’s Global CEO.
This year, after the camp ends, the satellite schools which participated in the Friendship Games will be donated various devices and equipment which will provide them with optimal conditions for learning and playing.
Like in the previous years, the organization of the Friendship Games received great help and support from our friends from the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, while significant contributions were also provided by our other sponsors.
