New Furniture and Didactic Materials for Preschool in Zagubica

by , Posted on 9th Aug 2016

Due to donation, in the amount of 2.800 euros, provided by the Novak Djokovic Foundation, PI “Poletarac” in Zagubica (eastern Serbia) is now fully equipped with new furniture.

More than 128 boys and girls, attending this preschool, will enjoy playing with their friends and learning in classrooms nicely decorated with new tables, chairs and carpets. Thanks to NDF partners and friends such as Sportimpex, Zomex and JRJ publishing house, the donation also includes various types of didactic materials and books. This is first of 20 projects, selected during the Foundation’s Call for Projects, held last year, to be implemented by the end of 2016.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of PI “Poletarac”, NDF representatives visited today this kindergarten and received warm welcome from children and their teachers. Gorana Dzudza Jakovljević, NDF project manager, expressed her satisfaction at the fact that the project in Zagubica was completed in such a short time.

It’s great to see that so many things changed for the better so quickly. On our first field visit, it made clear that the facility was in really bad shape. Therefore, we’ve decided to do even more for these wonderful children rather than equip their preschool only with new furniture, as requested in the application we received during our last Call for new Projects. We are grateful to our friends and partners for recognizing the importance of investing in ECD and ECE, this time in one of underdeveloped municipalities in our country. Thanks to their support, we succeeded to provide new books, necessary teaching materials, new shelves and cabinets for PI “Poletarac”. However, this is just the beginning as we still have a lot of work to do in 2016, in order to reconstruct, equip and open the remaining 19 kindergartens and schools throughout Serbia, said Dzudza Jakovljevic.

Safet Pavlovic, Mayor of the Municipality of Zagubica, expressed his gratitude to the Novak Djokovic Foundation for selecting and equipping this preschool facility.

NDF donation is very valuable not only for kids, as our primary reason for submitting the project application, but also for preschool staff and our local self-government. From now on, children will have significantly improved conditions for attending preschool programs. Our goal was to enable them to learn, explore and play with their peers in colourful and enriched environment. Moreover, we are pleased with all aspects of our cooperation with the Foundation’s team, including doing necessary paperwork, such as signing the donation agreement and setting the terms for project completion, said Pavlovic.

Employees at “Poletarac” were excited as well. Vanja Milutinovic, director of PI, said that teachers and children gained a lot from more than successful cooperation with the Foundation.

This donation is larger than required, and the best birthday present we could ever wish for, while celebrating our 30th anniversary. Thanks to the Foundation, boys and girls in Zagubica will be able to spend enjoyable time in kindergarten equipped with new, child-friendly furniture of a high quality. The classrooms are also filled with new carpets, toys, didactic games and literature for preschoolers. We are impressed by NDF team professionalism, understanding and readiness to help and support us to create conditions for our children to develop and grow up properly, stressed Milutinovic.
