NDF Opens New School of Life in Vladicin Han
The sixth School of Life has been officially opened today within the preschool institution Pcelica in village Lepenica, in Vladicin Han. The Foundation donated RSD 2.2 million for the reconstruction and equipping of this new facility, currently attended by 23 boys and girls.
On this occasion Maja Jovanovic, Novak Djokovic Foundation’s project manager, recalled all the Schools of Life that have been opened so far throughout Serbia, in Ljig, Biljanovac, Knic, Kraljevo and Merosina. Everyone from Novak Djokovic Foundation is also happy to announce that all the construction of the seventh School of Life will start soon in the Municipality of Lucani.
“School of Life” project is extremely important for the children from underdeveloped and rural areas, as it makes possible for them to be included in pre-school education and to attend kindergarten. Today we proudly open the sixth School of Life. I would like to thank the Municipality of Vladicin Han representatives and our partner in this project, the Center for Interactive Pedagogy for their great help and all the efforts they made. Beside the reconstruction of the Social Center and equipping the facility with new furniture and didactic materials, we have also provided plenty of toys, colour books and other things for entertaining and educational workshops. We are sure the kids will like them – said Jovanovic at the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Branislav Tosic, the Mayor of Vladicin Han, said that successful cooperation with NDF on the Schools of Life project implementation was extremely important for this municipality.
Up to now we have invested RSD 1.3 million in the reconstruction of the Social Center in the village of Lepenica. Despite the fact that our municipality is underdeveloped, we have managed to raise significant financial resources and organise human and material resource needed to promote preschool education and programs. Furthermore, we have provided mentoring and support for less experienced staff and regular monitoring of the activities taking place in the School of Life. We have also established cooperation with similar organisations and bodies focused on early childhood education – said Tosic.
Emilija Vlahova, director of PI Pcelica, expressed her gratitude to Novak Djokovic Foundation for opening School of Life in Lepenica.
I want to thank you on behalf of children, their parents, local community and PI Pcelica. Due to your help and support now we have this new and nice kindergarten within the existing Social Center, fully reconstructed and equipped with furniture, toys and didactic material. The garden has also been transformed into a wonderful playground with swings, slides and similar stuff for children to enjoy. Therefore, we have provided all that is necessary for preschool age kids to socialize, play with their friends and learn – said Vlahova.
In cooperation with CIP, our partner in Schools of Life project, four certified seminars have been provided and held for local community representatives through 72-hour training course: “Expanding the network of local community programs and services for children aged 3-5,5”, “Start from the beginning, the beginning is important – support the early childhood development and education”, “Step by step – good practice in teaching and learning for quality education”, and “Neither black nor white – fight against prejudice and discrimination, teaching children and young people tolerance, diversity, and multiculturalism”.
