NDF in Obrenovac on Universal Children’s Day
This Universal Children’s Day, celebrated on 20th November, preschool children from kindergarten “Zeka” in Obrenovac will surely remember for a long time.
Thanks to our friends from JRJ publishing house from Belgrade who donated numerous popular and interesting children books, kids created their own “time for reading and drawing” in a specially designed workshop.
As soon as we brought them parcels, children were eager to unwrap them, open the books and step into the world of imagination along with their favorite heroes. Later on, a lovely drawing competition on the theme of children’s rights was organized. We all read books; kids sang some popular songs and nursery rhymes, played games… We had so much fun!
Shortly after the May floods in Obrenovac, Novak Djokovic Foundation donated full set of didactic materials and some of the furniture to kindergarten “Zeka”, which is a part of the preschool institution “Perka Vićentijević”. The total value of donation is aproximately USD 23,000, including the books we delivered today to the kindergarten.
Gorana Džudža Jakovljević, NDF project manager, said that the entire NDF team and our partners were more than glad to help and support equipping of this kindergarten with wonderful books from JRJ. Now the children will enjoy reading popular and interesting titles for kids, carefully selected just for them.
This preschool facility suffered extensive damage in the May floods. The ground floor of the building has been completely flooded and destroyed. The natural disaster prevented 215 boys and girls from attending their kindergarten. We’ve decided to change that and to completely equip this facility with new furniture and didactic materials. Thanks to our friends from JRJ publishing house we have also provided plenty of new books to improve the quality of education of these kids, hoping to instil in them the love of reading. We have visited the kindergarten “Zeka” today not only to deliver this donation, but also to celebrate Universal Children’s Day, together with our little friends. We observe this special day as a great opportunity to talk with children about their rights, listen to them and find out if they are familiar with their rights. We were also able to find out how they understand this topic and what are their messages for us as their parents, teachers and educators – said Džudža Jakovljević.
Miloš Desančić, director of the preschool institution “Perka Vićentijević” expressed his sincerest gratitude to NDF upon receiving the donation.
After we suffered the devastating floods that hit Obrenovac, we are more than happy to receive such a valuable donation today. Thanks to Novak Djokovic Foundation these children will have all they need to learn, play with their friends and spend quality time in kindergarten. On this important day we talked and discussed with children about their rights. Our duty as their teachers is to promote and secure them their rights, as well as to build strong relationship with them, full of respect, understanding and love – said Desančić.
There are over 40 preschool children who attend this kindergarten. Out of them, around 40 participated in the workshop on children’s rights. All the drawings the kids have made will be displayed in the main hall of the kindergarten “Zeka” in the following days.
