Joint Support of the COVID Hospital in Belgrade by our Foundation and Avast Company

by , Posted on 13th Jan 2021

Our team continues to help the healthcare system of the Republic of Serbia in its fight against COVID-19. This time, together with the Avast company, we donated the necessary medical equipment for oxygen therapy to COVID Hospital „Clinical Centre Zvezdara “in Belgrade, which took care of as many as 4,800 patients in 2020.

Since the epidemiological situation, not only in our country but in the entire region, is still unstable, the Novak Djokovic Foundation is dedicated to monitoring the situation on the ground and responding to the needs of health workers. In cooperation with the Ministry of Health, we try to react quickly and provide help where it is most needed. Our initiative has been recognized by many partners and generous individuals, and among them is the Avast company, one of the largest security companies in the world.

With an aim to support Covid-19 relief efforts and organizations fighting injustice and inequality, Avast developed its Employee Donation Matching Program, with the help of the Via Foundation. Employees of the Avast company were presented with the opportunity to participate and support local organizations by donating to an NGO of their choice, while Avast committed to matching each individual donation from employees with a five-fold match for an even greater impact.

Thanks to this matching program and the fact that Avast employees recognized the importance of our support to health care institutions in Serbia, their company joined our initiative and together we donated 118 flow meters with humidifiers for oxygen therapy worth around EUR 21.703 to COVID hospital „Clinical Center Zvezdara“ in Belgrade.

“We feel that it is our duty to help our healthcare workers in their continuous efforts to change the current difficult situation for the better, and we are happy to have the Avast company by our side that also recognizes that solidarity and responsibility are crucial in these times. We hope that their Employee Donation Matching Program will inspire other companies in our region as a great example of corporate social responsibility. “-said Maja Kremic, the Foundation’s national director during the formal handing over of the medical equipment.

The Clinical Centre Zvezdara has been a COVID hospital for the territory of Belgrade since November 2020, therefore their health workers are especially on the front line in the fight against the pandemic. In this most recent „wave“, they received about 2700 patients, which results in a great need for various medical equipment. Our team, together with their doctors, found that, among other things, the most needed are flowmeters with humidifiers for the wall and the bottle. These are devices that serve to regulate and control the pressure and flow of oxygen in the oxygen therapy of patients, during which the oxygen that patients inhale is humidified.

“A large number of patients that our institution took care of required a huge consumption of oxygen – oxygen was consumed daily as in regular work for 6 months. These facts show how important the donation of the reduction and flow meter for oxygen therapy by the Novak Djokovic Foundation and the Avast company is. We are grateful to them for recognizing the importance of our work and the struggle of our medical workers during the epidemic and donating medical equipment that will facilitate the care of patients not only during the epidemic but also when we return to regular work. ” – pointed out the acting director of the Clinical Centre Zvezdara, Prof. Dr. Petar Svorcan.
