Fourth Friendship Games Have Started!

by , Posted on 2nd Oct 2016

The fourth Friendship Games, traditionally hosted by the Novak Djokovic Foundation every fall during Children’s Week, have been opened today on Kopaonik Mountain.

Around 100 boys and girls, first to fourth graders from primary schools in Aleksandrovac, Gornji Milanovac, Pecinci, Zitoradje and Sid arrived at the Junior Hotel, as participants of this year’s friendship camp, lasting for 6 days, from 2-7 October.

A lovely welcome ceremony for children, their teachers and NDF volunteers took place. Enthusiasm and positive energy filled the air as they stepped on the stage, nicely decorated especially for this occasion. The remarkable firework display followed, officially marking the start of the event we all looked forward to.

Entire NDF team has been busy in the last few months making careful plans to fill each day, from the early morning hours until dark, with lots of educational and entertaining activities for our little guests. We sincere hope they will have the time of their lives playing, learning and experiencing something new, forging bonds and friendships to last a lifetime and bring home fond memories of the Friendship Games. Kopaonik is a perfect place to engage kids in various sports and physical recreation, let them explore unique natural beauties of this mountain and set off in search of incredible adventures. Therefore, they will enjoy long walks through the woods, go swimming in the indoor swimming pool, participate in different types of workshops and visit local sites.

Friendship Games is a week-long retreat for children from economically disadvantaged municipalities in Serbia, where the Foundation implements “Schools of Life” projects. The goal is to offer them plenty of opportunities to master valuable life skills, make new friends, show their creative side, learn together and from each other, and discover new interests and talents. The Games also promote right values, like fair play, understanding, acceptance of diversity, healthy nutrition, importance of teamwork and environmental awareness.

Our dear friends from the Princess Charlene of the Monaco Foundation have joined us again, and we are glad to continue the excellent cooperation our two foundations achieved in hosting last year’s event.

Special thanks to the Junior hotel, Gebruder Weiss, Ski resorts of Serbia, Bambi, Iceberg Salat Center, Studio Moderna, Feniks Giz transport company and Eurocom as well for their help and support in making the Friendship Games 2016 happen.
