Children’s Laughter Returns to Kindergarten in Sanski Most

by , Posted on 11th Jun 2015

Novak Djokovic Foundation’s representatives together with our friends from UNICEF in Bosnia and Herzegovina visited today, June 11th, the reconstructed kindergarten “Krajiška radost” in Sanski Most. After the full reconstruction of the facility that sustained severe damage caused by unprecedented floods that hit Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia last year, nothing of the former devastation of this kindergarten remained.

Children’s laughter now fills every classroom, and makes the whole place so wonderful and bright. Thanks to NDF donation in the amount of EUR 100.000, raised for the reconstruction of the flooded kindergartens in Sanski Most and Šamac, the quality of children’s experiences in this kindergarten has never been better.

The kindergarten, attended by 167 children, located on the left bank of the Sana River, sustained damage beyond repair due to heavy rains and flooding last May. However, thanks to the donations and grants of generous people worldwide a lot of work has been done in order to fully reconstruct the facility. New floors of high quality have been placed along with PVC carpentry. Roof and the walls have been repaired, new furniture, carpets, didactic materials, toys and other educational programs have been provided as well.

The kids eagerly waited to return to their kindergarten. When the reconstruction was finally over, their happiness, excitement and delight were never ending.

When we see with how much enthusiasm children discover the world around them and enjoy spending time in the kindergarten we are so proud to be able to help them have happy and healthy childhood. All this gives us a strong incentive to keep up with our efforts to provide the best possible conditions for their proper education and overall development. Therefore, we will continue to fulfill our mission, and to enable children from disadvantaged communities to grow up, play and develop in stimulating, creative and safe settings, whilst learning to respect others and care for their environment. It’s been a great pleasure and privilege for us to be part of this project in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We are ever so pleased for having excellent cooperation with UNICEF, whose National Ambassador in Serbia is our founder and world’s No.1 tennis player Novak Djokovic – said Maja Jovanović, NFD project manager.

Behrija Grozdanović, director of kindergarten “Krajiška radost” said on this occasion that they would hardly be able to finish the reconstruction of the facility without the help and support of “Novak Djokovic” Foundation.

Kids are the youngest and most adorable citizens of the world. Children are more confident, more courageous and enjoy life far more intensely than adults. Sometimes it feels that we spend our entire lives trying to return to who we were as children. We can learn so much from them. Thanks to your donation they will be able to dream again. You gave our children opportunity to enjoy this new environment, to learn, participate in various activities and play with their friends. You brought smiles back to their faces. Now they can spend even more enjoyable moments in these fully reconstructed classrooms. Your unselfish act of kindness has proved that children are our top priority, both in good and bad times. The best investment we can make is in children – said Grozdanović.

Thanks to the people of good will who generously donated funds for the flood relief projects, our Foundation has succeeded to raise nearly $1.5 million for the reconstruction of preschool facilities in the flood-hit areas.
