Novak Djokovic Foundation donated RSD 8 million (around EUR 68,000) for the reconstruction of “Bosko Buha”, children’s theatre with original repertoire, long tradition and one of the biggest ensembles in Serbia and neighbouring countries.

Due to the importance and positive influence this theatre is having on our children, Novak and Jelena Djokovic, together with the rest of NDF team, decided to support the renovation process.

The donation will help the theatre to welcome next season with new seats, stage and theatre curtains, made according to the highest child safety regulations and standards. “Bosko Buha” children’s theatre is the only such theatre in Belgrade, which has not been renovated since it was founded in 1950.

NDF is very proud to be part of this important project. We are glad to support the reconstruction of this lovely children’s theatre in Belgrade, which, unfortunately, looks the same today as it did 60 years ago. NDF immediately joined the theatre’s general manager appeal to help the reconstruction of this theatre. We will do all we can to ensure that kids enjoy their favourite plays and the time spent at this place, just like they did before. For that reason, NDF has donated more than RSD 8 million to “Boško Buha”. I hope other companies, institutions and individuals will recognize the importance of this theatre for the youngest ones, and that they will follow our example, and support its reconstruction

said Gorana Džudža Jakovljević, NDF project manager.

Reconstruction of the theatre has already started. Thanks to our donation, 126 new seats have been provided, along with the curtains separating the stage from the audience, and a set of stage curtains made of durable and flame retardant fabrics. New stage floor has been provided, too.

According to Milorad Mandić Manda, general manager at “Boško Buha” theatre, EUR 9 million will be needed for the complete reconstruction of this cultural institution:

I want to express my gratitude to Jelena and Novak, as well as to the entire NDF team, for their support, help and understanding regarding the performance and survival of the oldest theatre for children and youth in Serbia and beyond. Reconstruction of the theatre has not been finished yet. There is so much to do. However, the most important thing for us is to make sure kids and their parents can finally enjoy their favourite plays in clean and safe theatre hall, for the first time after 64 years. I hope your unselfish act will inspire others who to join and support not just “Bosko Buha” but also other cultural institutions devoted to children and young people. Our future depends on our kids. Therefore, we must all strive to provide encouraging and supportive environment in which children can grow and develop in the best possible way. Thank you for helping us. Our mission is to respect all children, as it’s stated in Article 30 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child

On this occasion, Jelena Djokovic, the director of NDF commented:

One of our goals is to support institutions dedicated to early child development. Theatres provide children with opportunities to gain valuable experience. Here they can learn how to express themselves physically and emotionally in a healthy manner, and how to put things into better perspective. As children, Novak and I enjoyed going to “Bosko Buha” theatre. We have so wonderful memories from this place. For us there would be no greater happiness than to see kids enjoy their favourite plays comfortably seated, with actors masterfully performing on the new stage”
